Cooking for Ronald McDonald House

October 26

The Ronald McDonald House in New Brunswick (http://www.rmh-cnj.org/house-newbrunswick.html) provides room and board to parents of severely ill children in local hospitals. Their "Caring Cooks" programs enlists volunteers to make homemade meals for resident families.   Peretz has signed up to cook dinner in a week and a half -- on Sunday, October 26 -- & we still need volunteers!

Cooks can either prepare dinner (for approximately 10 RMH residents) at home, or work in the RMH's awesome kitchen. You can work by yourself, or coordinate with other families to make different courses separately. Food should be on the counter at RMH -- heated up & ready to eat -- by 5:30 PM. There's no need to set the table -- just leave the food on the counter, & residents will come downstairs & serve themselves when they have a chance.

RMH asks cooks NOT to use nuts, & they prefer not to receive mac-and-cheese or baked pasta dishes, as they receive so many of these.

RMH's contact info is: 145 Somerset St., New Brunswick, 732-249-1222

To sign up to cook on October 26, or on any of our Peretz dates (Sun. 11/30/14, Sun. 3/15/15, or Sun. 5/17/15):

Thanks!

Coat Drive!

November 16

It's getting colder outside! This fall, the IL Peretz Community Jewish School is asking members to donate gently used coats and NEW cold weather accessories (hats, gloves, scarves) to support Franciscan Charities based in Newark, New Jersey. Franciscan Charities provides over 100,000 meals each year through their soup kitchen and food pantry and assists clients with a wide array of critical social service programs. As the temperature drops, the charity strives to help clients bundle up for the winter during their Annual Coat Drive and throughout the season via their clothing ministry. Gently used coats and new cold weather accessories in all sizes from infant to adult are welcome. Please have your items in by Sunday, November 16th.     For more information on this effort, please contact Anne Gowen at mailto:[email protected].
