DESCRIPTION:(Family Event) \nDinosaur Fossil & Shark Tooth Hunt \nJoin us for this one-of-a-kind adventure! \nBig Brook Preserve\, where we will be searching for fossils and shark teeth\, once was deep under water (hence the shark teeth)…and then it was above water\, at which time it was home to DINOSAURS (hence the dinosaur fossils). This very unique place is open to the public\, but the preserve asks not to dig with large shovels\, so here’s a list of suggested items to bring in order to maximize your findings without ruining the brook for others: \n\nwater shoes\nsifter (the ones that kids use in sandboxes is perfect; colanders will work too but not as well)\nsmall sandbox-type shovels are allowed\, but no regular shovels\nwater bottle (to stay hydrated)\nlunch — which we will all enjoy while inspecting our found treasures!\nbug spray — not sure how prevalent the bugs will be\, but better safe than sorry\n\nThe Preserve is accessed from a small pull-off on the side of the road near the Four JGs Winery. \nThe plan is to search for fossils and shark teeth\, after which we will go to the amazing Colt’s Neck playground-and-sprayground if the kids are interested. If you’d like to join us at sprayground\, you might want to bring along bathing suits for the kids! \nThis event is open to everyone–Peretz school families\, Peretz community members\, as well as friends and families interested in joining us from the larger community.  Please e-mail Lily Borodkin with the number of attendees. DESCRIPTION:(Adult Education) \nJerusalem: Holy – and Wholly Complex\n(A presentation by history professor Chris Bellito of Kean University) \nDr. Bellitto is a historian\, frequent public lecturer\, and author of 10 books (e. g.\, “Ageless Wisdom: Lifetime Lessons from the Bible\,” 2016). He will explore why Jerusalem can be thought of as a city of both joy and sorrow and what it means to be at the intersection of Judaism\, Christianity\, and Islam. Jerusalem\, one of the oldest cities in the world\, allows a look at the past and the present simultaneously from the perspective of thousands of years of a rich and complex history. This lecture is sponsored by the N. J. Council for the Humanities. \nFree for members; a $5 donation is requested from non-members to cover event costs. DESCRIPTION:(Family Event) \nDear parents\, \nPer Peretz tradition\, we ask all parents to help out in the morning during school ours with Seder preparation. Even if you’re not planning to attend\, please help because there will be a lot of community members attending who do not come in the morning. As you may know\, our community greatly subsidizes the school and this is our way of saying thank you. \nHospitality will be set up in the Barn\, the large room at the end of the school building (if entered from the front) – that’s the room where we had our graduation last year. This room can also be reached via the back entrance Please look for Lily Borodkin\, our Seder coordinator\, or me Alex Jodidio. \nHope to see everybody in the morning and thank you in advance!

DESCRIPTION:(Teen Group Event) \nThe Bizzare Tales of Yiddishland: What the Yiddish Press Reveals about the Jews \n \nAuthor Eddy Portnoy will be visiting The Douglass Campus Center and talking about his book Bad Rabbi: And Other Strange but True Stories from the Yiddish Press at 7:30 pm on March 19th. The book is a collection of strange and peculiar stories about Jews during the 1880s to 1920s from the Yiddish newspapers of the time. From success stories to stories of disaster and misfortune\, this book has it all. The Teen Group (and any interested parents) will meet at the for an informal dinner\, compliments of Peretz and catered by Tacoria\, at the Douglass Campus Center at 6:30.  RSVP to Rob Pestka with number of attendees and dinner order by March 17.

DESCRIPTION:(Teen Group Event) \nChocolate Babka Workshop \nFor our first offsite Teen Group event of 2018\, we’ll be getting together for—yes—you heard it here first—a Chocolate Babka Workshop! Pans\, pre-risen dough\, and all ingredients will be provided by the hosts. The kids will come and prepare the distinctively rolled and rich bread. As the bread is left to rise for a second time\, the kids will help plan the itinerary for their upcoming trip to the Lower East Side based on the interests they express. The kids will then take their breads home to bake\, filling homes with the sweet scent of this yeasty confection.
