Adult Education Program: Film and Discussion
(Adult Education Event)
Double Panther (Film Screening & Dinner Discussion)
Please join us for our annual program in which we discuss films shown at the Rutgers Bildner Center Jewish Film Festival. The Program Committee has chosen a film we think you’ll enjoy. We will convene for dinner immediately following the film to discuss it, other festival films that people have seen, and whatever else interests the group. Dinner is tentatively scheduled for the nearby Omega diner.
About the Film
In 1970s Jerusalem, criminal nightclub owner Yaakov Elbaz is recruited by police to be an informant within Israel’s rapidly rising Black Panther movement. Though reluctant at first, Elbaz slowly begins to side with the Black Panther’s cause—civil rights for Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews–only for his double life to put it all in jeopardy. Based on historical events and starring Israeli Oscar-winner Yaakov Zada Daniel, Double Panther is a moving political thriller about collective action and social justice in the early years of Israeli statehood.
To join us for the film, purchase tickets to see it in the theater on Sunday, November 15 at 5:15 pm. Then email us if you will be joining us for dinner afterwards!
Please email the Program Planning Committee (Claudia Farber, Joyce Orenstein & Judy Stern) with your suggestions for speakers and/or programs, or to join our Committee and help plan our upcoming events!
